My research focuses on Human-Computer Interaction, Social Computing, and Large Language Models. Specifically, my HaiA (Human-AI Augmentation) group develops computational models of human knowledge and skills, quantitatively analyzes complex human interactions online, and designs effective user interfaces to enhance user performance in higher-order thinking tasks. Our research spans a wide range of application domains, including art and design, learning and education, mental health, social media, clinical medicine, and tourism.

Generally, our work:

• Understanding People: e.g., what makes social support effective? What knowledge is expressed in comments? What skills are demonstrated in videos?
• Facilitating Users: e.g., coping with mental health concerns, conversational search in online communities, preparing lesson plans, and ideating creative designs.
• Teaching Users: e.g., second-language learning, visual design, and critical thinking.
